James Edgar

I moved to Johnson City on a snowy day in January, 2011. That Friday, my new housemate suggested we visit a local music venue, The Down Home, where Abigail Washburn was playing a show. Six years later, I’ve attended many dozens of shows at The Down Home as a listener, performer, and since 2015, part-time employee.

Originally from Washington State, ETSU’s renowned Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music program is what brought me to East Tennessee. After graduating in 2014, I worked, traveled, and played a lot of music, before returning to ETSU in pursuit of a master’s degree in the fall of 2016.

Music and art have been a primary focus for most of my life. In addition to my coursework, I currently manage a variety of graphic design responsibilities for the Center for Appalachian Studies and Services as a Graduate Assistant, and have taught old time banjo for the Scott County (VA) chapter of the Junior Appalachian Musicians program since 2014.
